Karaoke Superstar, winner of Wesleyan University's Steven J. Ross Prize in 2019, was Wilson Lai’s senior thesis film about a teenage fangirl trying to meet her idol, Serena, who is an online karaoke star. Wilson asked me to create music for the film’s soundtrack, so I composed a score using the sounds of phone chimes and notifications that matched the film’s themes of social media’s ubiquitous presence in our lives. The film also features original songs by Daphne Gampel.
