EVO is an educational game designed and developed to teach evolution to students at Macdonough Elementary School in Middletown, CT. The game was created as part of Christopher S. Weaver’s “Computational Media: Design and Development” course at Wesleyan University during the spring 2019 semester.
The game was produced by a team led by Tong Kong, with programmers Dylan Abramson and Vanessa Tostado, and artist Isabela Bucciarelli. I served as lead artist and level designer, taking charge of the game's visual direction, graphic assets, and marketing materials.
We developed the game using Unity and conducted several field trips to Macdonough Elementary for playtesting. In that time, we settled on a 2.5D art style that kids responded well to, and simplified the game’s design to match the comfort levels of 2nd–5th graders.
During the final showcase, we were proud to watch kids enjoy our game, and were even more thrilled to hear them explain what they learned.
