Lab/Shul is a multi-hyphenate synagogue that embraces a contemporary, inclusive approach to Judaism and religion. I collaborated with the team for their 5780 High Holy Days, which focused on the theme of “awe” and sought to connect congregants with the beauty of the natural world.
For this project, Lab/Shul commissioned artist Day Schildkret to create a photographic mandala created from leaves, flowers, and other organic artifacts. As lead graphic designer, I devised a visual identity from Day’s work by rearranging its component parts and creating new compositions. I then implemented this identity into print and digital assets, including a ceremonial program used during the synagogue’s services. In addition to the original program, I created several revised concepts that took the design into a more expressive direction.
